The term has been adopted by independent game designers as a way to distinguish a game as being non-electronic, without implying that such a game is "missing" something. Acoustic games range from ancient games like Chess and Go to modern games like Carcassonne and Settlers of Catan. The terms can also be applied to non-electronic versions of electronic games, like World of Warcraft: The Board Game.
