What is Ammachi?
1.
Short for Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi or "Mother of Immortal Bliss". Ammachi is God personified in a human body, giving of herself continuously. She travels the world consoling all who come to see her, whom she sees as her children. The organization she heads has built thousands of homes for disaster victims all over India and Sri Lanka, as well as free hospitals, low-cost tuition universities, schools for the poor, and many other humanitarian enterprises. She also donated $millions in response to Hurricane Katrina. She lives a life completely devoid of any physical luxuries and no matter what she has or is given; it is immediately given back to the community. When she comes to the west, she will sit for hours (sometimes 20 at a time) without taking any kind of break for food or bathroom, and embrace each person who has come to see her. There are cities she visits where she will embrace 50,000+ people during a single day. For the past 30 years Ammachi has dedicated her life to the uplifting of suffering humanity through the simplest of gestures – an embrace. In this intimate manner Amma had blessed and consoled more than 21 million people throughout the world.
Ammachi is the the balm that will heal the world.
