What is Anpr?

Automatic Number Plate Recognition.

CCTV cameras used in the UK (and elsewhere) used to log road vehicle movements by reading the vehicle number plates using OCR technology.

ANPR is used to enforce the Londoncongestion charge, in SPECS speed cameras, and from March 2006, all road vehicle movements on main roads in the UK (along with petrol stations, supermarkets and Motorway service areas) will be logged by the police for unspecified purposes.
