What is Backcomb?

To comb hair towards the roots, esp. to increase volume and esp. common of a scene kidor person with dreadlocks.

The key to making realistic dreads is backcombing - literally, combing the hair in the opposite direction to which it 'grows' (or would if it was coming off your head).
