What is Baconpunk?
1.
Baconpunk is a subgenre of speculative culinary arts and fashion which came into prominence yesterday. The term denotes works set in an era or world where bacon is still widely used — usually around breakfast-time, and often set in the kitchen or dining room — but with prominent elements of baco-autonomy, such as fictional technological inventions like those found in the works of Michael Kupperman, or real technological developments like the Breakfast Robot occurring at an earlier date. It is often associated with porkcore and shares a similar fanbase and theme of meaty rebellion, but developed as a separate movement (though both have considerable influence on each other). Apart from calories, the main difference between baconpunk and porkcore is that baconpunk settings tend to be less obviously dystopian, eschewing the bleak, exclusively porcine vision of possible breakfasts for an ideal celebrating the baconcentric aesthetic alongside and in tandem with the traditional balanced breakfast.
"Best day ever. I had bacon with breakfast, a turkey and bacon sub for lunch, and bacon bits on my salad at dinner".
"Oh d00d. That is baconpunk, y0".
