Immediately noticeable due to its tacky appearance (such as a huge yellow label that stands out like a sore thumb), the Badge of Shame immediately communicates to your peers and co-workers that you are disorganized, forgetful, absent-minded, unprepared and/or generally incompetent.
"Sorry I'm late for the meeting. I left my ID at home, and spent 15 minutes explaining to the moron at the front desk why I didn't have my ID before he finally relented and gave me the Badge of Shame."
