phrase coined in Euro 2004 by a british broadcaster during a Netherlands vs Sweden quarterfinal match.

Originates from an England vs Portugal quarterfinal when famed English set kicker David Beckham blasted a penalty shot 20 feet over the cross bar.

Commonly used now whenever someone shoots a puck/soccerball/basketball miles above the target. Works for pretty much any sport.
