Those people who are staying overnight in parking lots for free are boondocking. You can also boondock by lakes and anywhere that you can park overnight.
Every time I go to Wally World in the summer the parking lot is filled with people boondocking.

No fresh water, electricity or sewer utilities while camping in an RV. Living without conveniences such as municipal electricity or water, indoor plumbing, or grocery stores, especially when camping with a recreational vehicle;roughing it.
To save money on our vacation we went boondocking.
