A practice of divination based on the outcome of the random and indeterminate bureaucratic process.
Applying for any number of different programs, jobs, or schools, knowing that where you are accepted or offered a position will determine the course of your life from that point onwards, thereby allowing the fates to decide your, um, fate.
"I am torn between moving out of town or staying here. After the ancient rites of bureaucromancy have been performed, I shall be informed of my destiny, most likely by a form letter."
