What is Buy Nothing Day?

Black Friday, in the United States,the day after Thanksgiving, traditionally marked by early morning sales accompanied by irrational violence at malls and shopping centers as bargain seekers do whatever they can to get what they want. Anticapitalists have dubbed Black Friday "Buy Nothing Day", and have attempted to counter the excessive consumption of the day by leafletting against the same sales, creating mock sales and coupons, organizing boycotts, and generally attempting to draw attention to the plight of the poor in the U.S. and around the world in contrast.
On Buy Nothing Day, not only should you avoid buying consumer goods and services, you should take positive action to emphasize the immportance of human life as opposed to material possesions.
