Widely considered the leader of the Marvel Universe's heroes. During World War II, the patriotic and idealistic but very weak Steve Rogers volunteered for military service but received the 4F card. However, he agreed to volunteer as a test subject for the military's Super Soldier serum, which transformed him into a powerful Nazi-bashing, spy-busting, Hitler-punching symbol of American courage.
After the end of World War II Cap was frozen in ice, and years later in the 1960s was discovered and thawed out by the Avengers, whose ranks he joined. He continues to battle for freedom and liberty: the living, breathing emblem of American ideals.
