Female chaffinch , variously known in parts of the UK as CHUFF WIT , HUZZLE MARTIN or QUIM TIT .
A notable native of the County of Dorset , the GREAT HOODED PUZZLE-TIT (to give it its proper title) is to be found nesting in the thatch ed eaves of a lady's property .
A type of HOUSE MARTIN or Swift , this shy , secretive denizen of the south is famous for its wit and cun ning , in instinctively conceal ing itself from potential predators - indeed, as its name suggests, even friendly ornithologist s are often puzzle d when trying to find it.
In 1843, when publication of the eponymous ly titled novel by literary icon Charles Dickens lifted the lid on its privacy , there was consternation in Royal circles as Queen Victoria enquired "Who or what is this MARTIN CHUZZLEWIT? We wish to be informed!"
