A ladies-only club formed in London in 1974, for members who wished to develop their organ-playing skills.
From its formation, the Clitoris Club was under constant attack from many quarters. Neighbouring mens' clubs were apathetic at best and hostile at worst. The prurient, tabloid press, hoping for titillating news items, became frustrated and then actively nasty. Militant lesbian organisations attempted to take over. The unfriendly glare of publicity very soon made even the staunchest member retreat into her shell. The last photograph, taken at the front door of the meeting place in 1977, shows only an indistinct, hooded figure - possibly Olive Pearl, the last known member.
