(they are the next level down from the top of the pyramid). The process continues, cascading in a downward direction, making the pyramid larger.

when a comedy act goes through a cycle of being: 3 - 5 "ok" comedians, 2 - 3 funny comedians, 1 - 2 Hilarious Comedians, Thus building what we might call a pyramid. It makes a pyramid to the funniest comedian at the show.
