A slang term for the vocal styles in virtually all death metal songs, which are low growls. They are named after the famous Sesame Streetcharacter of the same name. It's unknown when the term first came about, but the term can be both used by people who either like or dislike death metal.

"Hey, do you know what that guy's saying? It's terrible, I can't understand him at all!"

"Idk, they're cookie monster vocals. You're not really supposed to focus on the lyrics anyway. Who the fuck cares what he's saying? Enjoy the brutality of the music, dipshit!"
