It comes from the term baracoons (a cage), where they used to place Africans, who were waiting to be sent to America to be slaves. They had no idea of this, so some of them were even eager waiting in the baracoons.

-or anyterm that white people have begun to acknowledge, use and accept.
-(I hope you get the idea- this happens everyday)

Derogatory term for black people. Similar to "nigger." Originally a shortened form of the word "raccoon," used in reference to the animal. The black eye masks and noctural habits of the animal paralleled the characteristics of typical robbers and thiefs. The stereotype was then applied to black people.

As the old song goes....."If ya smell something funny when ya walk down the street your in 'coon' town, you look and see garbage all over the street your in 'coon' town...." and so on with it's repedative slurs.
