Community action with a mob sentiment that ignores reasonable discussion in favor of preconceived notions.

It is the opposite of astroturf, in which organizations create public statements and falsely attribute them to members of the public, or pose as a member of the public when making the statements to give the appearance of grassroots approval or support for the organization or its actions.

That AT&T blocked images from 4chan because of its content may just be crabgrass. That they blocked it only because of a network problem may be astroturf.
