Cundrum

What is Cundrum?

1.

condom, as used by americans (and perhaps by other English speakers) until the 1950s. Condoms were originally sold only at pharmacies, usually kept hidden under the counter.

It was often a mark of masculinity for a young man just to keep one in his wallet and show off the "ring" outline.

When condoms became readily available, and commonly marketed, the current usage became more popular, eventually making "cundrum" virtually archaic.

The grounds in lover's lane are full of used cundrums.
