In harness racing this is the position of the horse that is leading the outside line of runners during the race. For most horses it is not a good position to win from.

At the trotsit is better for the horse you bet on to have the cold sit rather than the death seat.

The seat on a bus on the very back row in the middle. Chances are if the bus brakes suddenly the person in the "Death Seat" will be thrown forwards and be propelled down the aisle.

Person 1 was sitting in the death seat when the bus driver slammed the brakes on. Person 1 was thrown forward onto their face in the aisle whilst person 2, 3 and 4 laughed hysterically.
