Actually, historically Italians are light skinned light hair. Italians didn't begin having dark skin and hair until the Moors conquered Sicily. They bred with the light skin/hair Italians and passed on their genetic make up. Over the years, the half white half black offspring bred through many generations making what is today a dark haired/ olive skinned population.
