Dollar Sign

What is Dollar Sign?

1.

A symbol that hundreds of moronic linux users, open source advocates, and ted Danson use as the S in the abbreviation "MS" ( Microsoft).

This guy came up to me on the street and said "Why are you using M$ Winblows, when you could spend hours compiling free programs that won't work on your system!". The reason I know he used a dollar sign instead of an S, was because he said "M-Dollar Sign". The conversation may have also been closed-captioned.

2.

in Perlversion 5, a dollar sign before a name shows that the variable access will return a scalar (single value). This is important when accessing an array or hash, as using the % or @ funny character in front of them will result in an array or hash containing one element, which is usually not what you want.

Perl detractors (mostly fags who use Python) call this a flaw in perl, or say it makes the code look ugly, or like line noise. They're idiots.

$foo{asdf} is not the same as %foo{asdf}.
