What is Drainpipes?

A style of trousers that became very popular in the late-70s early European punk movement. Current popularity amongst emo teens aside, drainpipes were, originally, the anti-bellbottoms, worn by The Ramones, The Clash, The Prunes, The Stooges (when Iggs could be persuaded to wear clothing at all!), and other bands that mattered. To say drainpipes are fitted pants worn by radio-friendly emos is like saying Good Charlotte is punk. Or Gwen Stefani is glam. Or My Chemical Romance is rock. It's a f***ing sin, and anyone who perpetrates this crime against intelligence should be ashamed. Plus lined up and shot and burried in an unmarked grave.

very tight jeans, especially tight at the bottom. mainly worn by emos with a spiked belt. they are usually black.

Long before punk, drainpipes were originaly popular in the mid to late fifties amongst Teddy Boys, often coupled with a velvet-collared drape jacket to form a suit.
Super narrow, they sometimes have a small split at the bottom of the outside seam.
Person 1: Check that guy's quiff! And what a snappy dreser!
Person 2: Yes, they say he has the narrowest drainpipes in Glasgow.

Ridiculously thin/skinny jeans worn by various scenesters, emo kids, and indie types, which make a person look completely out of porportion. Usually paired with a studded belt, a pretentious a-symetrical haircut, and a gaze of apathetic angst on the face of the wearer.
Unfortunately due to the logistics of finding jeans to fit so tightly, this trend often results in low sitting jeans which have a particularly ill fit around the bum, appearing as though one might be carrying a shite around in their pants.

person 2: too bad everyone else wearing them looks like a fashion victim
