What is Dubrovnik?

city-state that emerged from the Byzantine realm, Dubrovnik (Ragusa) became over the centuries a specific cultural combination of old Roman roots, a predominantly South Slavic population, and many Serbian traditions and language. During the centuries of Turkish occupation,it remained an important harbor of Serbian literacy, science and historiography. Dubrovnik was apart of serbia for centuries under the rulers of Stefan Nemanja and Tsar Dušan during medievil times.
