What is Dungeons And Dragons?
1.
The world's most popular pen & paper Role Playing Game (RPG). Created in 1974 by E. Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson, Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) combines role-playing with turn-based tactical combat. In a D&D game, one player is the "dungeon master" (DM) and the rest of the players are "player characters" (PCs). The PCs assume the role of adventurers (using fantasy archaetypes such as elves, wizards, halflings, barbarians, etc) while the DM creates challenges for the PCs to overcome (such as monsters and traps).
Over the years, the D&D game has been revised and published in multiple editions. The rights to Dungeons & Dragons are currently owned by Wizards of the Coast (creators of Magic: The Gathering) and Hasbro.
"We played Dungeons & Dragons for three hours. Then I was slain by an elf."

A highly complex role playing game created by Gary Gygax a brilliant man who took wargaming and turned it into a highly enjoyable game that is so open ended that the players decide the fate of the campain more than any video game.
Unlike video games that claim "The player's decisions influence the story" this game actualy lives up to that claim. In video games there is a limited amount of diversions from the main story that can be influenced by the player, because the computer cant make up a story, or expand it. A DM can mould and change the story as the game goes wand each characters actions have real repurcussions on things on the large scale and small scale.
Its essentialy a game for people that are fed up with video games that require about as much mental power as it takes to breath.
Video Game: You failed to rescue the villager and killed 3 innocent people along the way, your banned from this city...the game goes on.
Dungeons and dragons: You failed to rescue the villager and killed 3 innocent people along the way, your banned from this city, and a relative of one of the dead men who happens to be a crime overlord is weaving a web of deception to frame you for the assassination of the king, for which you must uncover the clues for, weasle your way into and discover, the truth
I'm going over to Sams house to play Dungeons And Dragons.

A popular pen and paper game, D&D has been a major influence on the video game industry.
Dungeons and Dragons is usually played with three or more people, but it is possible for the game to be played with only 2 players. One of the players is the Dungeon Master, or DM. The DM is responsible with describing what is going on in the game world to the players, and then the players act accordingly. The DM is also the final arbiter of the rules, and his/her dominion over the game that s/he is running is absolute. The rolling of polyhedral dice is used to determine many of the outcomes of the actions of the player.
Players take on the role of one of several classes, and can choose to play as one of several races. The main races are Tolkienesque, such as Elves, Orcs, Humans, and Dwarves, but many other interesting races are also present. Planetouched Elemental characters, half dragons, and vampires are all playable, among others.
The stereotypical D&D player is a socially maladjusted loner or loser, who is also a virgin. The stereotype often has pasty skin and severe acne, a speech impediment, and braces.
I, however, have yet to encounter any D&D player that fits this criteria. Therefore, whoever created the D&D stereotype is either a dipshit, or a fucktard.
Nearly all of the people that I know who play D&D are easygoing, laid back, and chilled out. They are aware of the fact that playing D&D isn't necessarily "cool", but they find it enjoyable and think everyone else who judges them for it should fuck off.
Dumbass : You play Dungeons and Dragons...? HAHA HAVE FUN WITH YOUR +1 SWORD AND ELF YOU FAGGOT.
D&D Player : Actually, I have a +3 Vorpal Greatsword. Also, you're a gigantic douche, shut the fuck up and go wack off to Madden or something.

Dungeons and Dragons is a tabletop game called an RPG(role-playing game). Dungeons and Dragons(D&D)is one of the greatest games ever created as it taps into the endless imagination of one's own mind and that can give anybody the power to do anything they wish as long as one can imagine it... The main premise of any role-playing game is to assume a role of a character in the story being told. Of course, that is a very succinct version of role-playing games(RPGs)in general.
The lengthy and intricate version is a bit daunting as this game allows you to;
1. Do anything you want.
2. Be anyone you want.
3. Do it with whomever you want to do it with.
4. Live any way you want to live.
5. Be the greatest hero in the story or the most vile villain.
Any action can occur and does as all the Dungeon Master(DM) does is place the Player Characters(PCs) into a situation and the player characters use their minds, wits, items, spells and weapons or anything else they can find, borrow or steal to get through that situation. If successful, they find wealth, fame and fortune as well as a rise in personal wisdom, dignity and self worth. All good things. If they fail then they may lose eveything, including the characters life. The game's goal is to basically become the most powerful and successful that one can be...not unlike real life. Like real life you can experience all the joys, happiness and hope of successfully reaching your goals as well as the pain, sorrow and despair of failing to meet your expectations. One game could take quite literally years to end and within that time your character could get married, have children, establish a home and a community or conquer the known world...the sky is not the limit with this game. You can easily travel to other worlds or known planes of existence, you can experience the light and awe of the various planes of good and righteousness or peruse the darkness and fire of the many planes of hell among many pantheons of any culture.
The diversness of races, classes and abilities are not limited in any way. As long as one can imagine it...it can be.
Truly a visceral, educational and limitless experience and I believe everyone should take a spin as their favorite hero or villain. As long as you retain the perspective that even though it is a game that can lead you to extraordinary places and events and awesome heights of grandeur and fame...it is still just a game.
Dungeons and Dragons has produced some of the world's greatest tales of adventure and heroism...all written by the people who play it.

A game in which a group of people come together and pretend they are a 'character' they made on a piece of paper. Occasionally 'models' can be used, but they are approx. 2 inches tall running around doing nothing on a 'grid.' This game is suitable for those with extreme imaginations, or those too lazy to play videogames.
Nerd fights tend to brake out over stats, so use caution.
This game, when played properly, or with a group of friends, can prove rather fun.
I play Dungeons and Dragons so I can escape reality.
