Dystopia

What is Dystopia?

1.

A bogus utopia run on propaganda; ruled by a repressive government which breaks promises, dashes the hopes of its citizens and destroys wealth.

The X party promised to turn the country into a utopia, if elected. But all they did was create a dystopia by ruining the economy, and squander the nation's resources.

2.

The opposite of utopia. What is really occuring in this world as we speak.

Increasing use of Big Brother spy technology, political corruption, uncontrollable population growth, and the Americanization of the world are all examples of dystopia.

3.

A made-up word generally used in place of utopia, however, the definition of Utopia means an attempt at a perfect future ruined by human imperfection and insecurity. This word is used by the pretentious as a way of fallaciously increasing their vocabulary.

"Do you realize this country is slowly turning into a dystopia?"

"No, but I am aware that 'dystopia' is not in any english dictionary."

See utopia, orwell, 1984, big brother, government
