It originated when a Myspaceuser called Hatepantsbad had the idea of making 6/6/6 an Emo Kid Beatdown Day, as evidenced by comments he made to Thedonlukas and Reptigurl on 30th April.

This year, it is on 8/8/08 and emos everywhere are already pissing themselves.

Person 1: Hey it is almost the 8th of August!

Person 2: Nearly Emo Beatdown Day! I hope it is as good as last year...
