The ninth (roman numeral 9)"evolution" or generation of Mitsubishi's road going rally cars which meets WRCrules.Has AWD and 2.0L turbocharged engine with 300 hp to meet wrc regulations.

Mitsubishi also made a 400 hp version of the Evo IX dubbed the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX MR FQ-400 which Clarkson successfully kept up to a V12 Lamborghini and eventually overtook it then he proceed to name everything that was wrong with the car.
