Having exceptional talent, but settling for a disappointing second-best. The term was coined from Soundgarden's "Outshined" which is an apt synonym.
Before the Minnesota Twins won the 1987 World Series, the people of Minnesota had been feelin' Minnesota, enduring presidential election losses by native sons Hubert Humphrey and Walter Mondale, along with four Super Bowl losses by the Vikings and a Stanley Cup loss by the North Stars in 1981.
