What is Fire Blanket Statement?

1.

A statement that is allegedly so self-evidently true that it cannot be argued against, thus extinguishing any debate on the subject under discussion. It is often employed by those that don't understand the issues and don't wish to reveal that ignorance.

"I don't like all this new building in rural areas." "Well, you can't stop progress!" "That's a typical fire blanket statement, just what do you mean by progress?"

"I am against making ID Cards compulsory" "I don't see the problem, if you've nothing to hide, whats the harm?" "Stop using a fire blanket statement, its not about hiding anything, just personal privacy!"
