George Bailey

What is George Bailey?

1.

Depression has been defined as anger turned inward. I have also heard that life is 10% what happens to us, and 90% how we react to it. We can change our circumstances by changing our attitude. I can intellectually agree at times; but, when I am driving down the road, and the thought that I cannot take one more minute of this hopelessness that overwhelms me to the point that I cannot speak, because my throat is tight, and tears slowly roll down my face, then I say," Yeah, right-change my attitude!" If that were possible, we'd all be running around freakin' happy 24/7! I understand the feeling of suicide. I think that a person rarely wants to kill themself; they just want to escape the crushing weight of depression and despair, and it seems the only way out. It can actually, in a twisted way, give them something to plan and hope for-the ending of the omnipresent pain. I fear that no one will come to my funeral; that my life has no purpose or meaning; that I haven't affected anyone; and, the worst feeling is, that I wished I'd never been born, like George Bailey in the movie "It's a Wonderful Life."

Sarah: "Hey, you look so depressed."

Mary: "Yeah, I am pulling a George Bailey today."
