Former U.S. Representative from New York, and the first female vice-presidential candidate from a major party. The running mate to Walter Mondale in his unsuccessful campaign against Ronald Reaganin 1984.

While the Republicans didn't select a female VP candidate, Sarah Palin, until 2008, Geraldine Ferraro from the Democratic Party was a VP candidate in 1984.
