The offer of a career opportunity that can't be refused. Usually in the context of being pushed out of one's current position. While the opportunity has superficial attractiveness, it requires an immense sacrifice if accepted. If not accepted, the alternative is career harikiri.
I was given the godfather's choice - stay in New York as the CFO and be ostracized by my boss & my peers. Or I take the job as the CEO in Palookaville, without my family for a year.
