What is Gomer?

Medical slang for a patient who "has lost--often through age--what goes into being a human being" (quote from Samuel Shem's "The House Of God"). Typically an old demented noncommunicative patient. Stands for "Get Out Of My Emergency Room".
I wish that gomer in room 3820 would stop moaning.

An old person that takes up room in the hospital and doesn't have the common decency to die.

acting stupid, making an ass out of him/her self, being in a blonde moment, ignorant, neive, an idiot, someone who is clumsy.

Person B: "You're such a gomer. Even if they paid me, I still wouldn't go. I only watch real racing."

Any chronically debilitated patient, (usually not able to communicate due to stroke or coma) admitted to the hospital that has little or no hope for recovery. They are literally sent there so that family members can presume to live without "the guilt" of letting their loved one die with the least bit of human dignity. As a result, these poor souls die a slow, pitiful death, out of sight from their family because their family doesn't have the
