What is Goumba?

A word that new yorkers or new jerseyans use that has no meaning what so ever. They think it means something tough, but it really has no Italian meaning. The actual word they are trying to get at but cannot pronounce is {compare'} which means {godfather} but not in mob terms. It literally means a godfather within religion.
A boy that lives in South Hackensack likes to be called a "goumba" but really has no idea what it means and thinks it's an italian term. He thinks he's Italian period.
