What is Groich?

Groiching, a British public school term for mildly roasting a junior boy in front of an open fire, much like toasting a muffin. Often associated with the game 'Piggy Come Lately'.

'Being groiched never did any real harm - brought a glow to the cheeks on a cold winter's evening and stiffened the character' (Parsons' Schoolday Memories, 1912)
