Expression coined by Taoiseach(pronounced roughly Thee-Shock, Prime Ministerof Ireland) Charles Haughey, meaning Grotesque, Unbelievable, Bizarre and Unprecedented, in 1982. Referred to an incident in which Malcolm MacArthur, a Dublin socialitewho had murdered both a nursein the Phoenix Park and a man who sold him a gun in Edenderry, County Offaly, was found in hiding in the home of the then Attorney General in Sandycove, County Dublin. Since then used in Irish politicalculture to describe any sufficiently notorious scandal, as well as being used for the name of a gay bar in Dublin.
