What is Hamalla?

An ugly pejorative term in Maltese, the language of the Maltese Islands, used when the speaker wishes to label a female person as having bad, loud or common taste, and/or as being of a lower social class than the (snobbish and classist) speaker. Can also describe things and behaviour.
Don't yell so loudly, you sound like a hamalla!
