What is Hamburger Fingers?

A condition when starting to play guitar. Repeatedly pressing your fingers aginst the strings of a guitar makes the tips of your fingers look like the surface of a grilled hamburger. After a while callouses devolop(akin to walkingg barefoot)and the condition goes away.
