The anglification of the German Hagemeier, which stems from 'hecke' & 'meier,' or 'hedge' & 'farmer.'

There is a large concentration of Hegamyers in Virginia & Maryland, and spread across the Eastern shores.

Mr. Hegamyer is a hedge-farmer... whatever that is.
