What is High-rise?

A building that is 10 or more stories (floors), and are usually located in the downtown areas of big cities, major metropolises, and large towns. They come in various architectural designs, but the most common ones are those of the "modern" style that have been built from the 1970s through the 1990s.

High-Rise buildings are usually constructed with steel and steel beams, glass, and concrete. The very first high-rise was built in Chicago in 1885, being around 15 stories. High-Rises that are usually 20 or more floors in heighth are also known as "skyscrapers".

The World's Tallest High-rise building is the Taipei 101 in Taipei, Taiwan. It was just recently completed in 2004 and has now passed the skyscraper that was the long-time holder of the title of the World's Tallest Building: The Sears Tower in Chicago.
