What is I Approve This Message?

1.

A requirement implemented in the campaign finance reform legislation promulgated by Sens. John McCain (R-AZ) and Russ Feingold (D-WI). It requires that candidates explicitly define the source of television and radio advertisments as coming from their election organizations rather than from another source. It is done as a mechanism to control so-called "soft money" contributions to compaigns.

"I'm John Kerry, and I approve this message."

2.

A suffix-phrase attached to the end of any sentence, especially insults, to make you sound like a douche-bag politician. Particularly useful in accentuating the in-your-faceness of an insult.

Listen Bob, I'm tired of finding dirty dishes in the sink and picking up the dirty boxers you leave all over the bedroom. Get your ass in gear, you slovenly piece of crap, or I'll walk right out that door forever--Oh I will--but not before shoving your disgusting underwear down your throat.

I'm your girlfriend, and I approve this message.

3.

What every political figure seems to say at the end of their ads.

"... I'm John Kerry, and I approve this message."

"... I'm George W. Bush, and I approve this message."

4.

Phrase you can use when leaving a message on the answering machine of a very political friend or relative.

On answering machine:

"Hi, I'm your son and I approve this message. I'd be happy to dog-sit while you're away for the week. By the way, I mailed in my ballot...so stop nagging me to vote."
