When pigmentfrom food stuffs enters a crack or crevace in or on a item of crockery and discolours the surrounding area.

After reheating last nights pasta dinner within a favourite bowl, due to the visibility of a large red stripe located on the interior, it became obvious that the bowl had become imbained.
