IRIX n. A variant of the UNIXOperating System designed by Silicon Graphics, Inc. to run on its MIPSprocessor based, IRIS graphical workstations.

Origin: Greek, meaning "Falcon." Also, a possible combination of the terms IRIS and UNIX, "Integrated Raster Imaging uniX."
