What is Itchy Boy And The Cobras?

1.

Itchy Boy and the Cobras is a punk rock band from the Jamestown, New York area. Their first shows were played in the summer of 2004. Their band currently consists of four members - Jonny on drums, Jordan on guitar and vocals, Andy on guitar, and Joey on bass and vocals. Jordan replaced former member Richy, who parted ways with the band but remains friendly with them. Jordan had been in a different local punk band called Watson, which broke up before he joined the Cobras. All of the members (and even some fans) playfully adopt 'Cobra' as their last name at times, with the exception of Jordan perhaps, who tends to use 'Watson' (from his last band).

They released a demo called 'We Don't Know No Snakes' in 2005. It sells for three dollars. It consists of seven tracks, hastily recorded and finished in DIY fashion. They have also recorded a few extremely rough live tracks.

They are generally nice guys, and their 'true' fans tend to be pretty loyal. Granted, in such an area as Jamestown, local punk bands don't get a huge following. They recieved a tough blow recently when their 'home venue', the Extreme Cafe, closed indefinitely. However, the Cobras have fought on, and continue to play shows in the area. They have also played in places such as Buffalo, and have played alongside such bands as Public Access, the Merkurs, the Tosspots, the Wheezing Stumblers, Black Rose Diary, Tokyo Rose, and many more who are unlisted here but definitely not forgotten.

They cover a couple of Watson songs ('Genocide' and 'Lucid') as well as a song by the band A Modest Proposal ('Longhair Revolution'). Jonny is also a member of A Modest Proposal, likely why they chose to cover it.

Original songs include 'Joey Cobra vs. the World', 'Zombies', 'Andy Cobra vs. the Killer Bees', 'Monster Truck Meets Godzilla', 'Jordan Watson Deals With Puberty', and more.

They also cover NOFX's 'Stickin' In My Eye' and Against Me!'s 'Reinventing Axl Rose' occasionally. The latter seems to be a very important song to the band, or to Joey in particular. One need only look up the lyrics to see why that might be.

Itchy Boy and the Cobras have improved remarkably since their formation. With the help of some remarkable individuals, they have continued to try to breathe some life into the struggling, choking Jamestown scene no matter what the odds. They attempt to play all-ages shows, and charge very fair prices for their merchandise. They give the locals something different to listen to, and seem to genuinely enjoy what they are doing.

They also give a good party, I hear. ;)

I'm going down to the punk rock show tonight, because I hear Itchy Boy and the Cobras are playing. Those guys have already made like a hundred dollars off of me alone. Might as well make it a hundred and three.
