Jacobitti

What is Jacobitti?

1.

Research shows that the Italian surname Jacobitti is of patronymic origin, deriving from the personal name of the father of the original bearer. In this instance the surname derives from the name Jacobitto or Giacobitto, a variant of Iacobo, or Jacob, which ultimatley derives from the Hebrew term "akew," meaning "heel," representing the belief that Jacob is said to have been born holding onto Esau's heel. Since the final letter "o" of the Italian surnames frequently changed to the letter "i" when the surnames were passed on from one generation to the next, the meaning of Jacobitti may be interpreted as "son or descendant of Jacobitto", a name which contains the diminutive suffix "-itto". It should also be mentioned that surnames beginning with the letter "J" are primarily found in Southern Italy.

The name Jacobitti comes from Italy.
