To finish just outside the money. The best of the losers. Commonly heard around the poker table, especially accompanied by questionable play leading to a poorly timed finish.
"Did you win at the poker game last night?"
"No, I went all in with pocket 2's under the gun. Got called by kings and went out in johnth."
