What is Josemon?

1.

Kingdom: Animalia

Phylum: Chordata

Class: Actinopterygii

Order: Perciformes

Family: Purnicheriphoridae

A type of fish indigenous to the water of south India (most bountiful off the shore of Kerala).

Has been seen sparingly in the waters of Long Island NY.

Well adapted to life in salt water, has been known to survive out of water for several hours, days, and even months with periodic dampening.

It is well known for its large club like snout, which has lead scientists to believe it to be a cousin of the modern day marlin or swordfish. While recent studies have shown this to be not true, and this characteristic has occurred as a result of convergent evolution.

While much is not know about this particular species we do know that it has been seen in the company of various Disney characters particularly one “silly old bear”

Josemon are rarely table fare. Most modern sport fishermen release Josemon after unhooking. Some Josemon that are top record setting fish are taken and weighed on shore.
