What is Joy Division?
1.
A music band that existed back in 1977-1980.
Released two albums: "Unknown Pleasures" and "Closer".
Most known song is "Love will tear us apart".
Played gloomy goth rock, post punk, new wave style. Think of The Cure only Joy Division is more depressive.
Ended up because lead singer of the band, Ian Curtis, who suffered from epilepsy and depression, commited suicide by hanging in 1980 May 18th (at the age of 24).
This band is not so known but their influence to the whole goth, post punk and new wave music was tremendous.
If you are goth and don't know this band, shame on you. I'm not goth but still know it.
"His second (and final) album with Joy Division - 'Closer' - is considered one of the darkest and most haunting albums in music history. The lyrics largely document Curtis's emotional turmoil leading up to his suicide." -us.imdb
