In these kinda shows, they often, during some sort of a challange or competition, show some basic practical engineering deployed on some junk and turn it into something that does some kind of a job.
Junkyard Wars (USA), Scrapheap Challange (UK) and Monster Garage (USA), to name a few...
Sometimes cool, sometimes stupid but a pretty good method to loose some time staring at the TV, overall...
They would become obsolete anytime soon, just like the "Robot Arena" (and similar RC cars bashing formats) show has been whiped out of the small screen.
I wonder what they do with those freak machines after the Junk Show is over...
