'Kabilan' in Tamil is a name given to boys. Most may be aware that 'Kabilan' (or 'Kabilar' in respectful form where 'n' is replaced by 'r' to add respect to elders and great men) is the name of an ancient poet, who lived around 500 AD. But the real meaning of this word / root word is not known to many except for few literary experts. The word is derived from 'Kabilam', which is the name of the colour 'Golden mixed black' (Ponniram Kalantha Karumai). It is amazing that Tamil language has a word to name such a rare colour. One might ask where can we find such a colour. Good example is naturally available mica with golden flakes on black chips. Once lived a sparrow in Tamil Countries in ancient times with feathers shining gold in sunlight was called as 'Kabilak Kuruvi' (Kuruvi in Tamil means Saprrow).
